Homework! That dreaded word has come back to haunt me again!! It's interesting that after many years after leaving school I sometimes wake up from dreams where I have forgotten to do my homework or forgotten to revise for an exam. This year both my girls are given homework. We have found a half an hour slot after dinner to dedicate to doing their homework. My older daughter's homework involves literacy and numeracy whereas my youngest is working on her reading and has a short book to read. However, we all sit down at the table and I spend time assisting, listening and watching them do their work. At this stage they do not see is as a chore and are excited to use their special colouring pencils or their sparkly pencils to complete their work. The younger one always wants more homework and homework similar to her sister's, so I often ask her to something similar at a level appropriate to her. It is a wonderful time for me. I get a short glimpse of how their little minds are working as well as what they have learnt during the day or week at school. We have two interesting articles of how to tackle homework with young children. Enjoy reading their experiences! A huge ‘thank you’ to all of those who contribute and share wonderful ideas and thoughts, without you all Baby-Mates Magazine would not be the same. Please contact us with your ideas, thoughts and views, your feedback is most welcome. If you wish to contribute and write an article sharing your experiences please email baby-mates.co.uk. With warmest wishes, Azmina - Editor.
